Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or date of birth entered in a search box is sent to the outside provider that runs that tool. The provider processes the query and returns its results. This site does not store or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you email a message, it may be retained so it can be answered. Messages stay within the site operator's team and are not shared outside it unless a legal obligation requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, technical details about the visit may be recorded, including:
- Your device's IP address.
- The browser and version in use.
- Device type and operating system.
- Pages viewed and time spent on each.
- The referring site, when one is present.
- Time stamps for page views.
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved by a browser. They help show which pages visitors use and where visits tend to end. Analytics services may combine that traffic information. Browser controls can block cookies; some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Keep the pages available and working.
- Send search requests to the provider that operates the selected tool.
- See which information visitors use and which pages need attention.
- Find and correct technical issues.
- Display advertising that may relate to a visitor's interests.
No Warrant Data on File
Alexandria City Warrant Records does not host, compile, maintain, or sell a warrant database or personal warrant files. It provides general directions to APD, the courts, the Sheriff's Office, and the public Virginia case-search systems. Information submitted to this site is not assembled into consumer reports or records about other people. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
For city-held public records, Virginia FOIA may govern an existing record request to the appropriate government office. That law does not make this private site a court-record repository.
Third-Party Search Partners
The search boxes are operated by outside companies. A query sent through a box is governed by that provider's privacy terms, including its own data-retention and sharing practices. The site operator does not control those choices. Review the provider's policy before entering personal information.
Links to Other Websites
Links throughout these pages point to Alexandria government offices, Virginia courts, state and federal program pages, and other resources. Following a link takes you to an outside service with its own privacy policy. Read that policy before sharing personal details there.
Advertising partners may also use their own systems to track activity across websites for ad selection. That tracking takes place under the partner's practices.
Who Might See Your Data
This site does not sell personal data. Depending on how a page is used, information may be handled by:
- Search partners receiving a query submitted to their tool.
- Analytics providers measuring page use and performance.
- Advertising networks that place ads.
- Government or law-enforcement bodies when a valid legal order requires it.
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security steps are used to protect information collected by the site. Internet-connected services cannot be made risk-free, however. The operator works to safeguard data but cannot promise that a security breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If a minor's information is believed to have been sent to the site, the operator will remove it after learning about the issue.
Your Data Rights
Privacy rights can depend on where a visitor lives and on the data involved. Virginia FOIA, Va. Code § 2.2-3704, is a separate process for requesting existing public records from government agencies. It applies to records held by a public office, not private data held by this site. A request to Alexandria for an existing city record should identify the record and go to the proper City office or its Public Records Center.
- Ask what visitor information the site operator holds.
- Request correction of inaccurate information held about you.
- Ask for deletion of information, where applicable.
- Ask about available choices for certain data uses.
For court records, contact the court clerk; Circuit Court access is principally governed by Virginia Code Title 17.1 and court confidentiality rules. See the City FOIA page for public-office requests.
Updates to This Policy
The privacy terms may be revised as the site changes. A revised copy will appear here with its effective date. Visitors who want to know how information is handled should read the current version.
